MILLROSE-TO-GO


1) What Is Millrose-To-Go?

MTG is a service that brings a fully functional portable digital recording studio to your home.


2) Is the equipment quality the same as in Millrose Music?

Absolutely. I use the same brand of computer (MAC), mics, hardware and software as I use at Millrose Music just more compact.


3) Why would I use MTG?

First, you've dreamed of having a recording engineer/producer, equipped with a digital recording studio, at your command in your apartment. Second, you love the sound of your piano and want to use it in your demos (Or maybe your cool friend has a Steinway you'd like to use). Third, you and your performers feel more relaxed in your home. Fourth, it's NYC, why leave your apt.?!


4) How many mics do you use? What about isolation? What about noise?

At this point the basic set-up is four mics. I use two mics for your piano (stereo) and two for the singers. Of course, just like at Millrose Music, a piano track can be laid down first and singers recorded afterwards. Without recording booths there is some “bleed” of sound into each of the mics, however, with crafty mic placement this can be minimized.

Your apartment is quieter than you think. Between practical scheduling, disabling phones/AC/ringers, microphone placement, digital editing, noise reduction software and possibly a strategically placed blanket (you supply) the recording can sound quite clean.


5) Can you record other things?

I can record guitars, flutes, tubas, kazoos, voice-overs, rabid dogs, anything you want.


6) Do you bring speakers to mix on?

At this point I'm using two pairs of high quality Bose Noise Cancellation Headphones. They're incredibly quiet in non-studio environments. I'll also bring a pair of micro speakers for basic playback.


7) How far will you travel?

As long as you provide travel expenses ($50.00 stipend plus RT cab fare) I'll go anywhere (additional fees outside of Manhattan are negotiable)

    8) Will you record my live show in a club/theatre?

    No, this is strictly a home service. Perform your show at home and I'll be there (I can add in the applause!).


    9) If we recorded the instruments/singers at Millrose Music could we mix (finalize) at my home?

    Absolutely. I encourage this.


    10) What do you charge for Millrose-To-Go?

    Aside from travel costs (see question #7) the current rate as of 8/1/05 is $88.00/hr. with a three hour minimum (it takes roughly three hours to set-up, record/playback/mix three songs and breakdown). The “clock” starts when I enter your home and stops when all my gear is packed.
